Saype Unveils Floating Artwork in NY for Address Hate Initiative

In a world increasingly shaped by digital hostility and societal fragmentation, the Address Hate Initiative emerges with a bold, poetic gesture: a monumental artwork by Franco-Swiss artist Saype, known for his biodegradable land art across more than 20 countries. On May 8th, 2025, New Yorkers are invited to witness the preview of his public intervention in the city — a floating artwork on the East River, launching both the foundation’s global mission and a new artistic chapter.

Address Hate, initiated by the Laterman Family Foundation, seeks to combat hate speech and promote mutual respect through art, education, and civic dialogue. Rooted in a shared digital space, the foundation aims to reclaim imagination, not incite division. And who better than Saype to carry this message? Known for his deeply committed work around environmental, humanist, and social causes, Saype was a natural ally to give visual form to the movement. “Great art is like great technology, it connects us to each other. And like great art, technology enables us to transmit messages both intergenerationally across time as well as across cultures and beliefs” shares Frances Laterman.

Address Hate: Taking a stand against online hate
In a world where social networks too often amplify division, Address Hate embraces the power of digital platforms to connect and inspire. Saype’s work, widely shared across the globe, consistently generates a viral and positive impact — with thousands sharing images of his giant symbols of unity, now visually echoing the values carried by the foundation. And what better stage than New York to convey this message — and to artistically stand together against hate.

Joshua Laterman emphasizes that “People are exhausted. AddressHate is coming at it from many perspectives. When people confront hate head-on, it can be overwhelming. That’s why our public artworks offer a more accessible entry point.”, also adding : “We’re turning the light on, and we hope others will come toward it.”
