A rooftop rug is a natural extension of Mateo artistic practice, as it bridges the roots in StreetArt with his on going exploration of carpets as symbolic grounds for connection, dialogue, and cultural layering.
A natural evolution in my art, where the city becomes the canvas, and the artwork becomes a place to gather, reflect, and celebrate.

Invited by @espacetrames for an artist residency in Dakar, Senegal, to create an outside art piece inspired by local culture. Rather than painting a wall, I chose to work on the rooftop terrace, a vibrant space used for gatherings, celebrations, music, and dance. I painted a carpet directly on the ground: a symbolic, open-air space for connection and ritual.
The composition weaves together elements of Senegalese culture — traditional wrestling, fish, bird tracks, wax fabrics « Teranga » the deep sense of hospitality I felt throughout my stay.

Full Gratitude to @espacetrames team for the warm hospitality and help in realize this project!
