Emotion Olympics by HERAKUT check the website

March 15, 2019 to April 20, 2019

Herakut, the German tandem formed by Hera (Jasmin Siddiqui) and Akut (Falk Lehmann), return to what has happened in recent years, with the urge to mark a profound shift in 2019. Leaving aside the ethereal world of childhood, in this first show of the year Herakut opts for a tonic realism compared to news.

“Emotion Olympics”

2019 marks a new turning point for optimism. Free from spleen and gloom previous years Herakut seems to wake up from its slumber and regain combative in nature. The two artists decided to listen to their inner voice that has motivated as a trainer before getting in the ring. And this coach shouts “Yes it’s true, the world is filled with scoundrels who exploit the slightest weakness. But it’s not a reason to accept that without fighting! “. So the tone is given: the Olympic emotions are that part of courage, strength and willingness that combine to infuse us
the hope of better days and the taste of the fight. An exhibition that begins in March, months spring where everything is reborn, where nature awakens and what is more, recalls the name of the god of the war (Mars) – nothing better to boost our resistance to demons diverse and varied that impede our freedoms. On one of the paintings presented the monkeys form a support team before every game. On another, the monsters become mascots, chasing opponents with great songs reinforcements. If Herakut had used the audience to works borrowed from melancholy, finesse and poetry, rooted in dreams, “Emotion Olympics” is part of a state of mind resolutely different compared to previous exposures.

Biography:

Herakut was born from the fusion of the names of two German artists who lived on on the other side of the Berlin Wall before reunification. The duo live and work in Berlin. Hera (Jasmin Siddiqui) was born in Frankfurt in 1981, and Akut (Falk Lehmann), a member of the collective Ma’Claim, at Schmalkalden in 1977. It is in the context of the 2004 edition of Urban Art Seville Festival that the tandem was formed. Their styles, both different technically and similarly in the dreamlike approach, underline two personalities opposed. Hera took as a pseudonym the name of the Greek goddess of life and family, focusing on the layout, composition and writing while emphasizing a restricted pallet. Akut, meanwhile, has specialized in photorealism.
