-Introduce yourself to us 🙂
Hello! My name is Sabek!

-How do you define yourself? Artist? Street artist? Anything else?
I just like to paint, I do not like classifications. I paint a lot more on the streets than in my studio, in fact, I have few pieces of artwork.

– How did it all start for you, and what is it nowadays?
I started at 16, scribbling my name on the walls, just for fun, it gradually took hold of me. I gave shape to my art while my art was giving shape to me, today it’s a big part of my life.

-What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning?
Piss and drink a glass of water.

-Street art is mostly a visually stimulating form of art. To add one more sense to it, what music would you pick to accompany your art work?
Many different kinds of music, especially music with a dark and disturbing touch; The Grimes would be a good example.

-In all forms of art, inspiration is crucial. What inspires you?
Everything inspires me, daily stuff, but very often some unstable or difficult moments of my life, they really stimulates my mind.

-Before going to paint, what is on your check list to take along?
Paint (laughs)

-Which cities do you think are the most inspirational in Street Art?
The typical and mythical ones like Berlin, Paris, Sao Paulo…

-Do you have other passions apart from art?
Rock climbing, adrenalin.

-What is your wildest project that you dream of achieving some day?
Paint the world!

SABEK

-Does your art include symbolisms, messages or repeated patterns?
Many , usually I paint animals , linked or being in themselves a black mass , pyramids, skulls ……

-What is your reaction when you realise someone has vandalised your creation?
I used to be angry , but eventually you realize it’s part of the game , the street belongs to everyone!

-What do you think people first think or feel when they see one of your works on the street?
It depends , there are many types of reactions and people, but I think they feel astonishment and surprise.

– If you were a president what would you change in this world?
It’s a too big question for someone like me, but I think I won’t try to change it; I’ll destroy it, there is a little left to save.

– What kind of responsibility do you feel you have towards society as an artist?
I don’t feel any responsibility towards society. I feel responsibility towards me and my work, be honest about my work and express what I feel.

-Do you have any interesting creative plans for the future?
A lot, right now I’m planning two trips to paint in London and Newcastle. Keep working and enjoy life!

It’s been great to get to know more about the mind and person behind such talented and inspiring works. Thank you !
