The Alliance for Coney Island is proud to commission a series of storefront gate murals in 2021 along the Surf/Stillwell Avenue Amusement District, and along our main neighborhood corridor, Mermaid Avenue, through funding from New York City Department of Small Business Services Neighborhood 360 Program.
The Alliance for Coney Island’s “Coney Island for Everyone” mural project is a celebration of all that Coney Island has to offer. This iteration of murals is not only a chance to help beautify all of the neighborhood, but also remind both residents and visitors that Coney Island is more than just a beachfront neighborhood for summer recreation, it is also a place where people live, work, shop, and have developed lives and a strong sense of community. As Coney Island is preparing for its 2021 season–something it was unable to do last year due to the pandemic–this mural project will bring color and life back to Coney Island and show that the neighborhood is still here, still strong, and still the historic and iconic community intrinsic to New York City.
15 sites within the neighborhood have been identified as mural locations, with honorariums between $600-$1,750 upon completion of the mural. Please see more information including the creative brief with locations here and the link to apply (with further information about the process and design requirements) here.
Mural submissions are due by March 31, 2021 at 11:59pm.
You may consider a modest donation — however much you can afford, when it comes from the heart, it’s the kind of gesture that makes us warm with appreciation.
