Golden

Venezuela born artist, Golden, opens the doors to his show in Wynwood and speaks to us about his works, his inspiration and how Love is all that matters!

-Where does your tag name come from?
From Gordo, means fat in Spanish but the people from the streets back in my country, Venezuela, replaces the “R” with “L” .  So Gordo, Goldo, Golden……..

-How do you define yourself? Artist? Street artist? Anything else?

– How did it all start for you, and what is it nowadays?
Everything started in Caracas, Venezuela, at a very young age with graffiti and envolve into street art and public art when I moved to USA Miami, 18 years ago. Is been my main income for the last few years and now it has moved organicly to fine art and gallery work.

-What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning?
Drink a coffee and thank La Virgen de La Guadalupe for my beloved family and all my blessing.

-Street art is mostly a visually stimulating form of art. To add one more sense to it, what music would
you pick to accompany your art work?
Reggaee

-In all forms of art, inspiration is crucial. What inspires you?
Love

-What is the hardest part for you, while working on a piece of art?
Nothing is hard when I am painting, this is when everything makes sense in my life

-Do you have an artists you admire and what for?
Ruben Ubiera, from Miami @urbanruben

He is been my friend, my mentor and inspiration in the last few years. Also the one that make me believe in myself to persue art as a life passion and career.

-Which cities do you think are the most inspirational in Street Art?
Miami, New York, Barcelona and Saopaolo

-Do you have other passions apart from art?
My other passion is BBQ, I always cook out BBQ when I am painting a wall, my BBQ has become kind of famous, some people don´t know I paint but know I grill….AHAHAHA

-Do you have a wild project that you dream of achieving some day?
This is it…ART…It took me a long time to change my mind set from  a standart Joe, part of a system in to what I am know. To me I am living my wildest dream. ND I enjoy it everyday, blessed that I can paint and travel the world doing what I love.

-Tell us about your art, does it include symbolisms, messages or repeated patterns?
My art is about expressing simple messages to the viewer, like love, friendship, happiness and joy. The idea with my characters is to let the viewer understand the message as fast and simple as possible, through bright colors and cute characters.

In all my walls there is always a Heart, cause the main message I would like to express is love, thats why my main characters is called Loveworm, and he is always spreading love. I think and that simplicity is the point of arrival, and my art represents that.

– How long time do your works usually survive for?
3 to 4 years

-What do you think people first think or feel when they see one of your works on the street?
Happiness!

-Do you have a secret you would like to share with us? 🙂
I am afraid of ghosts and I dont watch scary movies

-What are your creative plans for the future?
Keep spreading the love and travel as much as possible

-Is there a specific thought or message you would like to pass to our audience out there?
UNICORNS ARE FUCKING AWSOME…. THEY FART RAINBOWS…
