ATTERO BY BORDALO II

November 04, 2017 to October 26, 2017

Aftear achieving a wide international acclaim, BORDALO II will be presenting in Portugal his first big solo show: “ATTERO” (*). It’s not by chance that “ATTERO” escapes the gallery and museum circuit. As an extension of the artist’s statement throughout his career, and supporting the decentralization of the art scene in Lisboa, with “ATTERO”, BORDALO II opens the door to his studio and invites us into his world.
This show will provide a retrospective of his body of work so far: artwork made of trash, transformed through his hand and vision to something bigger. An unavoidable comment to our society’s consumerism and to the way we exploit, many times abusively, the resources Nature provides us. Inevitably, the visitor will be invited to reflect on his own part as an actor of this society.

ATTERO” will present pieces from different scales, new approaches resulting from the experimentation of new media, and pieces from his most remarkable series “Big Trash Animals“.

Throughout the three weeks of the event, a set of parallel initiatives are planned, which intend to be the vehicle of transmission of the environmental manifesto that BORDALO II focuses on its work. Among the various activities, we must highlight:
– construction of “Big Trash Animals” pieces in various areas of the city;
– guided visits to the exhibition by the artist, the curator and / or guests from different areas;
– guided visits directed to schools (primary and secondary);
– talk with the artist and others;
-projection of the documentary “Bordalo II – A Life of Waste” with the presence of the directors Trevor Whelan and Rua Meegan;
– workshops; – book Release (autograph session).

Note: The days and hours of these parallel initiatives will be announced shortly.

(*) _ ATTERO is the Latin term for “wasting”.

This event is curated by Lara Seixo Rodrigues (Mistaker Maker).
