“Before there was money there was debt. Money is simply a symbol for debt.” — David Graeber, Debt: The First 5,000 Years
Betrayed By The Dream is a project focusing on the American student loan crisis – currently valued at 1.3 trillion dollars and set to double by 2025.
We are collecting and asking for your very own personal stories and artwork on how the dream, the American Dream, the promise of college leading to more, the lack of help or support from our government peddling this dream, and how the outlandish acts of student loan companies can leave students betrayed, afraid, and not allowed to pursue their dreams or take risk in any way.
Our goal is to get behind the corruption, the lies, and how it is affecting us on the ground floor.
Arundhati Roy: “The trouble is that once you see it, you can’t unsee it. And once you’ve seen it, keeping quiet, saying nothing, becomes as political an act as speaking out. There’s no innocence. Either way, you’re accountable.”
